4 Tips for Getting a Head Start on the Winter Tire Game

This fall, get a head start on the winter tire game by checking on the condition of your current tires, inspecting your winter tires, ordering new tires early, and scheduling an appointment to change out your tires.

#1 Inspect Your Current Tires

The first thing that you need to do is inspect your current tires. Is the tread on the tires wearing down? Can you see patterns of irregular wear? Do you the tires have enough grip?

If your tires are showing signs of wear, you will need to either replace your summer or all-season tires before you get winter tires, or keep in mind that you are going to need to purchase new tires when you take your winter tires off in the spring. The second option will give you time to save for a new pair of all-season or summer tires.

#2 Check Out Your Winter Tires

Next, you need to check to see if winter tires are stored on your own property. Some tire companies will store your winter tires for you, in which case you cannot check them out before you set-up an appointment to have them put back on your vehicle.

Take a look at your winter tires. How is the tire depth? What condition is the grip in? Do they need to be changed? Remember, your winter tires can wear out just like your regular tires.

Also, pay attention to the condition of the rubber. Is it cracking or compromised? If you didn't store your winter tires correctly, you may not be able to put them back on your vehicle.

#3 Order New Tires Online Early this Fall

If you need new winter tires, do not wait until this winter to order them. Spend some time shopping around online this fall in order to find a pair of tires to put on your vehicle. Order the tires early this fall so you have enough time to get a good deal and put the tires on your vehicle.

#4 Set up an Appointment to Switch the Tires Out

Finally, set up an appointment to have your winter tires switched out. Remember that the end of fall and beginning of winter is a busy time for the tire industry. Everyone else is going to have the same idea that you have, which is why it is a good idea to call and schedule an appointment this fall so you can have your winter tires put on as soon as you are legally able to.

Get a head start on the winter tire services this year. Check out your spring and summer tires to see if they need to be replaced. Make sure your winter tires are still in good shape. If they are not in good shape, order some new tires early this fall. Then, set up an appointment to swap out your summer or all-weather tires with winter tires.
